                              ADOPTION AND COST

The dogs are placed with a contract that requires the dog be returned to us should there be ANY problem. They cannot be given away or placed into a shelter. We don't want to use our funds to pay impound costs. We charge a tax deductible fee that varies from $125 to $200. (In CA the average is $175, and the new owner pays for rabies shot licensing. The amount also varies on the age of the dog. The monies collected are put into our rescue account to pay for veterinary fees, shelter/pound fees. Whether a dog costs the rescue $50 or $550, it is placed for the same fee.

HELPFUL HINTS

YOUR DOGS FIRST DAYS

Adopting a new dog is a very exciting experience for you, yet it can be a stressful transition for a dog. A loving new home is exactly what every homeless dog needs, but they don't always realize they' found one right away. Here a few helpful hints that can make the first few days easier for the animal and the family.

YOUR DOG IS SPECIAL

Your new pet is not that perfect dog you had as a kid, although with a little patience, training and time, he/she can become just as special. Each dog has it's own unique personality, let your new pet show you how great he/she can be...It takes time to be great.

IDENTIFICATION

All pets should wear a permanent ID tag along with a current license. All dogs four months of age and older are required by law to have a current rabies vaccination and license attached to their collar at all times. A second ID tag with the owner information is also recommended for both dogs and cats. Indoor pets should not be forgotten, they too may somehow find their way outside and the added security of an ID tag may ensure a safe return home. Remember, responsible pet ownership starts with you.

NEW DOGS NEED PEACE AND QUIET

Always take our new pet home to a nice quiet atmosphere. All new pets need time to adjust to new surroundings. Some animals fit in right away while others may hide under the bed for a day. They each have their own way of making the transition and some adjust faster than others. Having a quiet home in the beginning will help your new pet adjust more quickly.

NEW PETS NEED A GUIDED TOUR

Take your new pet on a tour of their new home right away. Show them their bed, also their "toilet area." Every dog needs a bed  and new dogs need to have a 'safe place' to go if they are frightened.

ONE THING AT A TIME

New pets should never be exposed to an entire new life-style all at once. Other family pets and the neighborhood children can wait a few hours before they meet the new addition. Too many things all at once may cause your pet anxiety.
