Shih Tzu Rescue

As a nation, we claim to love cats and dogs. Millions of households have companion animals and billions of dollars are spent yearly on pet supplies and food. But as a nation, we should be ashamed that another statistic runs into the millions each year: the number of dogs and cats given up to shelters or left to die on our streets because of pet owners’ irresponsibility.

The numbers tell only half the story. Every cat or dog who dies as a result of pet overpopulation—whether humanely in a shelter or by injury, disease, or neglect—is a living, breathing, feeling being who, more often than not, would make a wonderful companion if given the chance.

As tremendous as the problem of pet overpopulation is, it can be taken on if each of us takes just one small step, starting with not allowing our own animals to breed. The more we all do, the closer we can come to a solution.--ASPCA

According to AKC records, over 42,000 Shih Tzu were registered during 1998. Due to the popularity of Shih Tzu,  many dogs have been bred for monetary reasons without a careful breeding program or proper home placement. Consequently, many of these wonderful Toy dogs become homeless.
