Good Dog...Show Dog. Is there a difference?

Showing dogs is a wonderful sport that combines the thrill of competition

with the excitement of seeing beautiful dogs. Shih Tzu, with their arrogant carriage, long, flowing coats, and gorgeous, soft dark eyes, are spectacular in the show ring. The AKC approves and maintains the official records for thousands of sanctioned and licensed events every year. These events include dog shows, agility trials, field trials, obedience trials, lure        coursing, hunting tests, herding trails, tracking and coonhound events.

Shih Tzu compete in dog shows, agility, and obedience trials. At a dog show, the main consideration is the dog's conformation or overall appearance and structure. There are three types of conformation dog shows: Specialty, Group and All Breed.

SPECIALTY SHOWS are limited to dogs of a specific breed or grouping of breeds, for example the Shih Tzu Fanciers of Southern CA is for Shih Tzu only.

GROUP SHOWS are limited to dogs from one of the seven groups for example Toy Breeders Association of Southern CA.

ALL BREED SHOWS are open to over 150 breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club.
